about

Acoustic instrumental music by Wellington, New Zealand, improvising trio The Winter.

Mike Kingston: charango, guitar, clarinet

Dave Edwards: ukulele, sanshin, tenor sax, piano

Simon Sweetman: xylophone, percussion

Our most recent recordings to date – and the last for some time, as we now live in three different countries. This was recorded during a one-week window of opportunity when we were all back in NZ, in August (the southern hemisphere winter).

Some new international influences are apparent – Mike brought his charango from South America (¡Ole!), and I brought a sanshin from Okinawa, Japan (がんばって!), in the interests of pan-Pacific cross-cultural fusion.

Released in August 2013, to conclude the band’s tenth anniversary celebration (that began with The Winter: 2011), to mark the first anniversary of this particular jam session , and to bid farewell to the southern hemisphere winter of 2013.

The bird on the cover is a kaka (North Island New Zealand native parrot).
